TENNIS CLUB DANCE
A SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION In view of the tremendous success of their previous function this season, the Northcote and Birkenhead Tennis Club held a plain and fancy dress dance in the Onewa Picturedrome last evening. Though weather conditions were most I unfavourable, the hall was well filled, ! and quite a number wore fancy dress. Original paper caps of bright colours j were a feature of the evening, and streamers and other novelties added to the enjoyment of the dancers. Mcsdames W. Jacks and A. Campbell and Mr. R. Johnston, who judged the costumes very impartially, made a popular selection in choosing as prize winners the following: Miss Wheatley, a wen-carrled-out black and white" pierrot. Miss Ray Hitching, a very charming inducement to “Eat More Fruit.” A special prize was awarded to Miss Z. Entwhistle in. a Cossack dancer’s costume. Mr. Anderson ' was a very sheiky “Son of the Sahara.” Mr. Holmes, an original black and white conglomeration, Black Pirate predominating, being the result of seeing “Too Many Movies.” Mr. W. Jacks, a vice-president of the club, presented the prizes, and addressed a few well-chosen words to the dancers. Among those present were:Mrs. A. Campbell, black frock of crepe de chine. Mrs. W. Jacks, black satin and black lace with Spanish shawl. Nlrs. Potter, a demure “Lady’s Maid.” Mrs. Herrick, in a fuchsia georgette frock and black shawl. Nlrs. Weaver, navy marocain frock. Nil's. Morrin, black frock of figured crepe de chine. Nlrs. Harding, wearing black marocain and an effective Paisley shawl. Nlrs. H. Wernham, in flame crepe de chine and embroidered shawl to tone. Mrs. E. Fraser, black frock and deep apricot shawl. Miss M. Newman, in an original costume representing the “Silk Tax.” Miss D. Wrightson, wearing a becoming “Gipsy” frock. Miss K. Jacks, as “Carnival,” in a novel black frock with multi-coloured trimming. Miss NT. Heath, in a pretty Rumanian peasant girl’s dress. Miss J. Wernham. black velvet frock and hyacinth blue shawl. Miss M. Locky, a cute “French Doll.” Nliss J. Johnston, with a pinafore and pigtails, as “Jill.” Miss Peterson, flame velvet with silver diamante trimming. Nliss C. Currie, peach coloured taffeta. Miss O. Hitching, wearing a “Spinning Top” costume. Miss F. Jones, pervenche blue taffeta and diamante frock. Miss G. Smith, in pale green crepe de chine. Miss Mina Hammond, who was a very pretty "Powder Puff.” Miss Peggy Hammond, as a little f‘Dutch Girl.” Miss Leila Dick, a captivating Hula Hula maiden. Nliss D. NlcPliail. flame-shaded sequined frock and blue shawl. Miss Thelma Cross, s a sweet “Early Victorian” lady. Miss P. Newman, blue crepe de chine. Miss Joll, wearing a dainty shaded green net frock. Miss Thelma Couldrey, black velvet Miss N. Chambers, sage green taffeta. Miss G. Currie, in an ecru lace frock. Nliss J. McLymont, wearing black velvet with a light reseda green shawl. Nliss NI. Coefield. sage green figured crepe de chine. Miss E McLymont, apricot georgette and lace frock.
