“DADDY LONG LEGS”
HIS MAJESTY’S TO-MORROW Renee Kelly is making her farewell appearance in New Zealand in her famous role of Judy in “Daddy Longlegs,” at His Majesty’s Theatre. The part suits her to perfection, and the sentimental appeal of the play assures its success with the average audience. There is something about Jean Webster’s simple story that goes to the heart of young and old. In its unassuming directness the book, when it was published, appealed no less to the blase business man than to the schoolgirl. The dramatised version of the story is as simple as the book. As we look at the charming people on the stage, we know that all will end well. There are no dragons, no witches, no wicked spirits, in this story—and that the orphan will become a princess, and live happily ever afterwards. “Daddy Longlegs” will be presented to-morrow night, and a special matinee will be given on Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock.
