YOUNG MEN’S INSTITUTE

TE AWAMUTU MEETING The annual general meeting of members of the Te Awamutu Young Men’s Institute was held on Monday evening. There was a good attendance of members, over which Mr. J. Oliphant presided. The balance-sheet showed assets totalling £B7l 13s 2d, of which the Market Street section of £BOO was the principal item. Apparatus £27, and bank balance £l4 15s 2d, made up the total. The profit and loss account showed proceeds of tournaments £34 7s 5d and £ls 14s 9d, subscriptions £3l ss, and donations £4 Is Id. After paying sundry accounts, there was a balance of £l9 18s lid. The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Mr. J. Oliphant, sen.; vice-president, Mr. S. S. Preston; junior vice-president, Mr. C. A. Reilly; secretary, Mr. A. A. Chittenden; treasurer, Mr. G. H. Rodger; stewards, Messrs. F. Baker and W. Ryan; auditors, Messrs. G. O. Jourdain and W. McGovern: committee, Messrs. H. Holt, F. B. Teddy, W. Bayne, D. Horan and A. Turrell. It is anticipated that the lease of the Market Street section will be disposed of at an early date at a figure returning the institute a satisfactory income. It was mentioned that a member of the institute, Mr. W. Bayne, the present holder of the lightweight wrestling championship of New Zealand, intends to challenge for the heayweight championship of the Dominion.
