“RAZOR GANG”

SYDNEY SENSATION SPANISH SEAMAN SLASHED The “razor gang” of Sydney, which has been quiet for some time, made another sensational attack last week. A Spanish seaman, Joe Sanchez, had his left cheek slashed with a razor in Hyde Park. The wound extended from Sanchez’s eyebrow to his chin, and 3 3 stitches had to be inserted. Sanchez was resting on a seat near the entrance to St. James’s Station in Hyde Park. He had been there only a few minutes when two men spoke to him. The strangers then went away, but returned later, when one of the men asked Sanchez for a cigarette. Sanchez held out a box of cigarettes, whereupon he was struck on the face with a razor. The strangers then went to where three women were sitting, and the men and women then walked away quickly. Blood was pouring from the wound in Sanchez’s face, and the injured man, suffering great pain, went to Constable Carter, on traffic duty. The police are of opinion that Sanchez’s assailants mistook him for another man.
