TRIBUTE FROM PEOPLE

MONSIGNOR LANE HONOURED PRESENTATION OF ADDRESS The Right Rev. Monsignor Lane, one of the stalwarts of Roman Catholicism in New Zealand, who was recently honoured by the Pope, was tendered a reception last night by his parishioners of St. Mary’s at Ellerslie. An illuminated address was presented to the guest of honour by Mr J. Sliarman, who said that although Monsignor Lane had been in the parish

only two years he had more than endeared himself to the people. The congratulations of the parishioners on the high honour which the Holy Father had conferred upon him were happily tendered. Mr. E. Casey also spoke on behalf of the parishioners, referring to Monsignor Lane’s qualities both as a priest and a man. The Rev. R. J. Stanton, vicar of Ellerslie, proffered the good wishes of the Anglican community. “It is indeed fortunate to be among such loyal and appreciative parishioners,” declared the inonsignor in the course of his reply.
