NIGHT ANGLING
PETITION FROM ROTORUA (THE SUN'S Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. There is a feeling that the regulation prohibiting night angling in Taupo and Rotorua districts bears unduly on anglers, and can serve no useful purpose and, in consequence, 239 sportsmen of the districts concerned have petitioned Parliament, asking that the regulation be repealed. The petition, which was presented to-day by Mr. F. F. Hockly, Rotorua, refutes the statement that night anglers do not fish fairly. This accusation, it is maintained, is absurd, as any experienced angler would confirm the statement that trout cannot be caught at night on such lures as spoons or artificial minnows. “We can state in all sincerity,” say the petitioners, "that the artificial fly is a lure exclusively used by night anglers. The presence of night anglers is a sure preventative to ! poachers.”
