GRIM DISCOVERY IN DENSE BUSH

HUMAN SKELETON FOUND Press Association. GISBORNE, Monday. A human skeleton, believed to be that of Rati Wiri Paeroa, aged 53, who was reported missing from Port Awanui on June 15, 1917, has been found in some dense bush between Port Awanui and Reporua. Near the skeleton was a doublebarrelled shotgun, lying as if it had been across the body. Two discharged cartridges were in the breach of the gun, and a portion of a live cartridge was found among the bones. Parts of the skeleton and clothing were missing. The police do not suspect foul play.
