WINE, WOMEN, SONG
FOURSOME’S NIGHT OUT EVENING IN “BORROWED” HOUSE Breaking a window, a blithe foursome spent a jolly evening in a furnished but unoccupied house in Laurie Avenue, Parnell, on Friday evening. At the Police Coui't to-day the party, which consisted of Willa Podger, aged 30, Nellie Stipich, aged 29, Arthpr Selwyn Wood, aged 34, and Sydney Murfitt, aged 31, were charged with being in the house without lawful excuse. Sub-Inspector Lewin said that the house was owned by a man touring in America. The party had broken a window to get inside and a constable found one of them playing a piano. There was some wine and the floor was strewn with cigarette butts. Murfitt said that a nephew of the owner had invited him to go to the house. Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M.: Yes, and get admission through a window. Look here, I hate being made a fool of by a lot of lies. Mr. Dickson asked that accused be discharged and ordered to pay £2, the damage done to the house. If Murfitt was convicted he would lose a military pension. “They’H be convicted and ordered to pay £2 between them. If there’s any trouble about the pension, let me know.”
