LIBERATION OF OPOSSUMS GOOD COUNTRY FOR DEER (From Our Own Correspondent.) WAIHI, To-day. At the annual meeting of the Waihi Acclimatisation Society, held on Saturday night, the balance sheet disclosed a credit of £ 1 4s 3d. The election of officers resulted as follows: President, Mr W. H. Johnston; vice-president, Mr. E. A. Wilson; secretary, Mr. G. A. Nisbet; committee, Messrs. Selling, Sparks, Mac Lean and Haszard. It was decided to cancel all honorary rangers warrants, with the exception of those held by Messrs. Bennett and Harrison. It was also decided to apply for permission to liberate opossums and red deer it being stated that 80 square miles of country around Waihi were suitable for the latter. The presentation ot a cheque for £ d. sent by the Auckland society, was made to Mr. Martin O'Dwyer for his action in giving evidence that led to the convigtion of X\altei XYeekes, ranger, for illegally shooting a hen pheasant.
