GARAGE GOSSIP
A dealers* conference was held in Auckland during the week by Northern Automobiles, Ltd., local agents for the “Dodge** car. The conference was attended by the 32 dealers in the Auckland Province. The main purpose of the conference was a “get-together** between dealers and distributors to learn the others’ point of view. Matters of importance to the successful working of the industry were discussed, such as service, spares, the flat-rate system, the hire-purchase agreement and the used-car problem. An address was given by Mr. V. Shipway, of Detroit, on the Dodge organisation. The dealers have returned to their districts better acquainted with the organisation they work in and the product they handle, and the distributors are to be congratulated on the success of the conference. * * * The Ford organisation in New Zealand received a visit during the last few weeks from Mr. P. W. Grandjean, secretary-treasurer of the Ford organisation’s headquarters at Ontario, Canada. Mr. Grandjean travelled by road over a good deal of New Zealand, and left by the Niagara last Tuesday Mr. E. C. Nimon, late of A. Hatrick and Co., Ltd., Wellington, distributors for “Overland, ’* “Willys-Knight ' and “Armstrong-Siddeley,” has been transferred to their Auckland branch. * * * Mr. Taylor, for some time manager of the Maoriland Motors, Ltd., agents for “Bean,” “Paige, *’ “Jewett** and “Fiat,” is leaving shortly for Australia, and his place is being filled by Mr Gale. * * * Mr. V. Shipway, of Detroit, representative for Dodge Bros. motor vehicles, will be leaving New Zealand by the Aorangi next Monday’.
