School That Goes to Sea

England's Youngest Crew Afloat Boys from the Graham Sea Training School, Scarborough, which is the only sea training school in the country to own a ship that actually goes to seaj have left on an 890 miles’ cruise in the schooner, Maisie Graham. They will be away about a month, and intend calling at Dornoch, Inverness, Aberdeen. Dundee, Edinburgh, Berwick, Blyth, and the Hartlepools. Recently a carrier pigeon from the ship reached Scarborough with a message, saying that the Maisie Graham was off Coquet Island, and, except for a little sickness, all the crew were well. The school was founded by Mr. C. C. Graham, a former Mayor of Scarborough, and is recognised by the education authorities and the Admiralty. In previous summers boys of the school have voyaged to France, Germany, Belgium, Norway and Sweden. The ages of the young sailors range from 12 to 15.

The captain is Lieutenant Heather, and under his supervision the boys navigate the ship themselves, actuallv taking sights, laying courses, steering and keeping the log book. Each boy pays 10s a week for his food on a cruise, and all take turns in the cook's galley. On October 3 this year the school will ceerbrate its tenth birthday with a speech day.
