Mrs. W. E. Brown, senr., after spending the past eight months with her son, Mr. R. W. Brown, Dunedin, and visiting friends in Christchurch, has returned to Milford, and is staying with her son, Mr. Allan Brown, Milford Road.

Mrs. Swabey, wife of Commodore G. T. C. P. Swabey, commanding the New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy, and Mrs. Grahame-Watson, wife of Lieut.-Commodore Grahame-Wat-son, of H.M.S. Diomede, returned to Auckland yesterday by the Tofua, after a visit to Suva.

Miss E. Burke, of Melbourne, arrived at Auckland this morning by the Ulimaroa and intends to spend an extended holiday in New Zealand.

A meeting of the Women’s Political Association will be held in the Priscilla tea rooms this evening, when Mrs. C. E. Maguire will give an address on “Women in Other Lands.” * * * The French Club will hold the second dance of its 1927 season in the Click Clack Cabaret this evening. AN ENGAGEMENT The engagement is announced of Rona, the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Martin, of Gladstone Road, Parnell, to Eric J., the only son of Mr. and Mrs. William Roulston, of Hamilton Road, Herne Bay. THE LATE MRS. E. GISBY Mrs. Emma Gisby died at the Home of St. Joseph on Sunday at the age of S 4. Born in Nottingham, England, Mrs. Gisby came to New Zealand with her husband in the ship City of London in ISBO. Her husband died six years ago, and since then Mrs. Gisby has lived at the Home of St. Joseph. She was a great church-worker and was well know in St. Patrick’s parish. Mrs. Gisby is survived by two sons, two daughters, 21 grand children, and 26 great grandchildren. Requiem mass was celebrated in St. Michael's Church, Remuera, this morning, the funeral afterwards leaving for Waikumete Cemetery. A DANCE PARTY The Misses Brenda and Rone Brown, of Riding Road, Remuera, gave a delightful party last week, when a number of their friends were present, and spent a cheery evening in dancing to music supplied by Miss A. Wilson and Mr. V. Ford. SOCIETY WEDDING LONDON, July 18. The bride, the best man, the bride’s father and two of the bridesmaids were all 6ft tall when Gillian, the daughter of Mr. Arthur Lubbock, chairman of the Marine and General Mutual Assurance Company, was married to the Fc:i. . Andrew Thesiger, heir of Lord Chelmsford, Agent-General for New South Wales:, and a former Governor of New South Wales and Queensland. A “500” EVENING A very pleasant Flag 500 evening was given by Mr. and Mrs. W. Garvey at their residence, Puriri Avenue, Green Lane. Mrs. Garvey was assisted by her daughter. Miss Hilda Garvey, who delighted the guests with recitations. Among those present were: Mr. and Mrs. Sommerville, Mr. and Mrs. Hughes, Mr. and Mrs. W. Dalton, Mr. and Mrs. Crasher, Mr. and Mrs. Von Sturmer, Mr. and Mrs. W. Somerville, Mrs. Evitt. Mrs. Page, Mr. H. Somerville.
