SHAREBROKERS’ CUP

PAEROA DEFEATS PIAKO PAEROA, Monday. In the Thames Valley Rugby Union’s junior representative competition, playing for the Sharebrokers’ Cup, the Paeroa and Piako teams met on the Paeroa Domain on Saturday. Play was fast and even, and the result was in doubt right up to the call of time. Half-way through the last quarter the scores were 6 to 3 in favour of Piako, as the result of tries by 'Mace and Munro (Piako), and Conolly (Paeforwards, W. Stevenson (Taumarunui), roa). With about five minutes to go, Conolly drop-kicked a beautiful goal from the field, which gave Paeroa a lead of one point. Piako attacked strongly, but could not break through the defence, and the game ended: Paeroa 7, Piako 6. Two other matches were also played at the Domain, the Piako and Paeroa third-grade representatives trying conclusions, and the Waihi and Paeroa primary schools’ teams competing for the Fleming Cup. In both games the home teams were defeated, Piako winning by 13 points to nil, and Waihi by 8 points to nil.
