SUCCESSFUL OWNER RETURNS HOME “A WIN EVERY TIME” HORSES LEFT IN AUSTRALIA The well-known Auckland owner, Mr. J. Williamson, never returns from Aus-
tralia without a trophy of some kind. He came back from Sydney by the Ulimaroa this morning, after winning two events on the other side. “I go across every winter,” said Mr. Williamson to-day, “and I manage to get a win every, time. New Zealanders are most popular people in Australia, and we always enjoy a visit.” Mr. Williamson said he had not brought his horses with him. Claus and Solarno are with Dick O'Donnell in Sydney. The Thorn is with George Price, who is' preparing him for spring engagements in Australia, and Pentagram is with Stan Reid in Melbourne. WORK AT ELLERSLIE The track at Ellerslie was on the heavy side this morning, but some interesting work-outs.were registered. No. 3 grass was available and was freely indulged in, though under the conditions prevailing nothing in the way of fast times were registered. ETOI| TOWN BLEEDS On that Track Rafferty and Eton Town set out to cover a round, but Eton Town pulled up bleeding badly after about four furlongs had been covered. Rafferty ran the last six furlongs in 1.29. War Officer and Thursby finished ahead of Star Comet over six furlongs, but were not timed. Cullgie and Wyoming got through a journey over six furlongs in 1.25 4-5 and both did it well. LADIES’ BRACELET CANDIDATE Levenside and Fair Abbey took 1.29 4-5 to cover siz furlongs. The first named is engaged in the Ladies’ Bracelet at the Pakuranga meeting and is
by Thurnham from Spinster. He is trained by W. Patterson at Ellerslie. Automne was too good for Fiery Lad over five furlongs running the last three in 44. Charitane accounted for Double Mint and Ponticuss over six furlongs, registering 1.27 2-5. In a bout over six frulongs after running the first three in 44 Mountain Guide and Michael were not bustled to run the full distance in 1.30. Tidal and Whakarite sprinted three furlongs in 44 2-5. MASTER DOON WELL Master Doon allowed Kamehameha to get a break at the start but beat him home «over six furlongs in 1.26. They ran the first two in 28. Golden Krist and Sea Comet were speedier than Simplicitas over a round. They took 1.31 for the last six furlongs and 1.1 for the last half mile. The Fox after running the first furlong in 14 4-5, got over half a mile in 58. Wee Marble and Valentino took 59 to leave the last four of five furlongs behind finishing on terms. JUMPING TASKS Master Noel (C. Scott) and Whakatoe (A. I-tutherford) jumped four hurdles satisfactorily. In a like task Royal Bonus (C. Hastings) and Blago (F. McCabe) gave a fair exhibition. JOTTINGS Ash Tray will not be a starter at the Pakuranga meeting, but will make her debut at the Avondale fixture. L. Manson will ride Cullgie at the Pakuranga fixture and A. Rutherford will have the mount on Whakatoe. Included in G. Holland’s riding engagements are Golden Krist and Fair Abbey. H. Wiggins left Auckland on Sunday night to pilot Horomea in the Winter Cup at Riccarton to-day.
