THE handsome structure shown below which is now in the course of erection, is for the Colonial Mutual Life Assurance Company, Ltd., and will mark a further stride in the road of progress of the city of Auckland.

building, which was designed by Swan, Lawrence and Swan, architects, of Wellington, is to be constructed in concrete and is located just below His Majesty’s Arcade and adjoining the Bank of Australia. It will be seven storeys high and provide accommodation, on the roof, for two caretakers’ residences. The Queen Street frontage will be occupied by four modernly appointed shops, the main entrance to the building beirtg in the centre. The com-

pany will occupy the ground floor and possibly the first floor, while the remaining floors will be appointed for use as offices. The entire building will be specially heated and finished in the latest style. There will be three passenger lifts and one goods lift.

It is expected that the building, which, with the ground, is to cost £150,000, will be completed by this time next year.

The contract is in the hands of the Fletcher Construction Company.
