WINDING UP THE CLOCK
It Has been recognised for some time that the daughter of Logan Pointer—Bonilene, Bonny Logan, was a cut above the average over a mile. This was clearly demonstrated at the Canterbury Park fixture of January 2, 1926, when with M. Holmes in the saddle, the mare carved out the eight furlongs in 2.9 4-5, a saddle record for New Zealand. On that occasion she was the back marker on 48 yards. In all her subsequent races, where track conditions have been favourable, F. Holmes’s brilliant mare has kept round about a 2.10 mark. On Saturday in the Internationa! Handicap, from 48 yards behind (2.10), Bonny Logan set the seal on her fame as a sprinter by registering 2.7 4-5 for second place. It was a brilliant performance and one deserving a better reward.
