TOURIST TRAFFIC

SOUTH BEATS THE NORTH MANAGER’S GENTLE GIBE (.THE SUA'S Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Friday. In one direction at least the South Island leads the North Island. This fact is brought forward by the manager of the Tourist Department, who says in his annual report that last year the department's booking business with 11 leading South Island firms amounted to £22,397, as against £15,523 from the North. "I doubt whether any other Governmeet department can show such a pre!t?nd.erance business in favour of the South as against the North Island " observes the manager, ‘*yet the department is accused of unduly favouring the North. I expect before long to hear complaints from the North that they are being penalised to benefit the South Island traffic."
