FALLEN LEAVES
The leaves come down in threes and twos For us to scuffle with our shoes, All the school-going girls and boys Rustling along with a pleasant noise. At night, I’ve heard my father say. They change to horses, brown and grey, Just big enough for elves to stride, Though we can’t see them as they ride. I think it’s true, for one night, going In woodland ways with no wind blowing, I heard the leaves in cavalcades Rush with their riders down the glades.
