Minister Threatens Complete Ban of Auckland Till Dispute Ends WAIKATO RACING DEADLOCK (THE SUN'S Parliamentary Reporter .) WELLINGTON, Friday. FOLLOWING the refusal of the Auckland District Committee to approve the Waikato Hunt Club’s programme for the Labour Day meeting, the Hon. R. F. Bollard, Minister of Internal Affairs, is expected to inform the committee that no racing permits will be issued for the Auckland District until the controversy over the Labour Day permit terminates. This announcement is made by the “Dominion.”
SUPPORTED by all political factions O o f the House of Representatives, the Minister stands firm in his decision to grant a totalisator licence to the Waikato Hunt Club for the Labour Pay meeting. Mr. Bollard stated to-day that he had full powers, under the Gaming Act, to do what he liked in granting totalisator licences. Some opponents to the Hunt Club being allotted the Labour Day date have stated that the Waikato Hunt Club by holding its meeting on Labour Day would be hunting out of season. Reference to the Rules of Racing shows that the hunting season is the period from April 1 to March 31. Asked about totalisator licences for Auckland meetings, Mr. Bollard said he had nothing to say. “I have given my decision in accordance with the Act and my reasons for it," he said. "And that ends the matter as far as lam concerned. Parliament has given me certain responsibilities, and I must respect them.”
