Warners’ 1926-27 Programme
Now in Production WELL-KNOWN STARS FEATURED /\NE more picture remains to be ' completed on the Warner Brothers’ 1926-27 programme, “The Heart of Maryland,” now in production. This stars Dolores Costello under the direction of Lloyd Bacon with Jason Robards, Warner Richmond, Helene Costello, Myra Loy and other players in the cast. The first picture scheduled on the new
programme will be “The Bush Leaguer,” starring , Monte Blue. The \ three latest picI tures completed [were, “ Dearie,” ’ with Irene Rich: “Simple Sis,” with Louise Fazenda and Clyde Cook, and “What Happened to Father,”
Warner Oland’s first featured part under his new contract. VITAPHON E SOUND Interest centres on the Extended Run Production, “The Jazz Singer,” which Alan Crosland is directing from A 1 Cohn’s script based on the stage success by Samson Raphaelson. This picture is the first to be filmed with Vitaphone sound incorporated in its dramatic action. Two stages have been completed at the new Vitaphone studio on the coast lor sequences in which the sound de-
vice is to be used. Besides Mr. Jolson’s songs, there will be several numbers by Joseph Rosenblatt, internationally famous cantor. Opposite Jolson is May McAvoy, with another important role filled by Warner Oland and the main comedy character played by Otto Lederer. Two other Warner releases for next year are Monte Blue’s new story, “The Bush Leaguer,” and Irene Rich’s next production temporarily titled, “The Outpost.” Lloyd Bacon is completing Dolores Costello’s next, “The Heart of Maryland.” “The Black Diamond Express,” with Monte Blue as its star, which Howard Bretherton directed. Edna Murphy is leading woman, with Claire McDowell, Myrtle Stedman, Carrol Nye, J. W. Johnson and William Demarest filling other roles of prominence. Louise Fazenda’s latest comedy vehicle, “Simple Sis,” is listed. Miss Fazenda appears with Clyde Cook and William Demarest, who are to be teamed with her next season. Biliy Kent Schaeffer is also in the cast of “Simple Sis.” The picture was directed by Herman Raymaker. “Dearie” will be released with Irene Rich as the star. Archie Mayo was its director and its players include William Collier, jun., Edna Murphy, Anders Randolph, Douglas Gerrard, Richard Tucker, Arthur Rankin, David Mir and William Demarest. “What Happened to Father,” by Mary Roberts Rinehart, is played by Warner Oland, in whose support appear Flobelle Fairbanks, William Demarest, Vera Lewis, John Miljan, Cathleen Calhoun, Hugh Allan and Jean Lefferty. John Aolfi directed.
