NEW SEASON OPENS
BIG PROGRAMME AT ADDINGTON SEVERAL PROSPECTIVE CUP CANDIDATES f. MORROW will see the 1927-28 light harness season opened in appropriate style, when the New Zealand Metropolitan Club’s national fixture commences at Addington. The sport to be provided will be of the best, and practically all the king-pin pacers and trotters in the Dominion will be seen in action. Additional interest is centred in the fixture as it gives several prominent aspirants a final opportunity to qualify for the Dominion's greatest event the New Zealand Cup.
'THE card, which is a most attractive one throughout, will open with _ event tor square gaiters, the INTRODUCTORY HANDICAP, 1£ miles. Pioneer Cannonball . . 12. Ot this lot, Tamerlane Nourmahal, and Native star ap- ‘ r ’ the most attractive. Tamerlane, JJJ, Auckland form, looks a better proposition than Nourmahal, but at the User distance the mare may have it on the Petereta gelding. Native Star is a promising trotter, that made many friends last season, and if ready will give her opponents a lot of trouble. Wildbine can go fast it in the humour, but Katute will be wt U served by the distance. Cannonball has recent form to recommend him Guy Parrish was a hot favour--1,, ( or this event last year, but failed. He is reported to be very well just now. Bridget Galindo is a good sort to keep in with, and an awkward trio will be Herbilwyn, Little Logan, and Real the Great, and if the former is in the
pink he will be one of the hardest to dispose of. Public opinion will lean toward Tamerlane, Bridget Galindo, or Katute. One of the popular events of the day, a mile saddle, will next come up for decision, the ELECTRIC HANDICAP, 1 mile. Lulu Lad . . . Lt. Glandore ... 12 Oboe M. Doctor Dillon . 12 Wilkes . . . scr. Rockaway, off the end, is a possibility, and Lulu Lad is another that may keep the opposition busy, and Double Dvent he. 3 only to repeat his track work to be home and dried. Glandore will command a whole heap of respect, and Bennett has left mm in this race in preference to Trimmer, which is a good recommendation. Then there is Doctor Dillon, who goes W ®U °n the Addington track, and must not be overlooked. Firpo is a good saddle house, but may not be ready, and Daisy Pointer and Fashion Queen are speedy. Albert Logan is another that must command respect, but the pick of the basket is undoubtedly Author Jinks, and if he comes back at all refreshed "ill be the joker. Bellfashion can scamper a mile in saddle, and Darkn;re will not be allowed to pay another sensational figure. The favourites should be Glandore, Author Jinks, or Albert Logan. There will be a big parade of the r 3*hionable contingent, including proba ule new Cup candidates, for the AUGUST HANDICAP, 2 miles. • . . Lt. Trenand ... 12 ttiiiv o ° ,n^er • Lt. Auckland form will not be forgotten, and the Oamaru pacer may start favourite. Others that will be prominent, on their Auckland winter running, are Cardinal Logan and Imprint. The former put up a fine performance in getting second to Terence in the big race the first day, and won the sprint on the concluding afternoon in great •style. He is a real racehorse, and will be hard to beat. Imprint was the acme of consistency at Alexandra Park, and should improve in the interval, in which case the meeting between Terence Dillon, Cardinal Logan, and Berkett’s charge will be well worth witnessing. There are others, too, that will be on the premises, especially Logan Chief, who is fast coming right, and will have a big following. Man-o’-War and Waitaki Girl both showed recently that they are still capable of clapping on the pace. From a good pool, the elect should be Terence Dillon, Cardinal Logan, o>' Imprint. Improving class pacers, who can stay out two miles, will have their chance in the TRIAL HANDICAP, 2 miles. Alvira Lt. Henry Logan . 24 Amaris Lt. Lord Bingen . . 24 Wenlo Lt. Some well-performed aspirants to higher things will try conclusions here, and of the limit brigade Mavis Wood and Wenlo appear to have the best credentials, although Amaris has received the right kind of work to prove awkward, and his recent track work enhances his prospect. Ariki has come right, and will be a tough nut to crack. Henry Logan will be at home on the dirt track. Great Earl and Logan Park are a pair that will take all sorts of beating, and the public will most likely pin its faith to them. Huon Denver made great advancement toward the close of last season, and must not be taken cheaply. Hoon Play has disappointed several times of late, but Conara, when right, is a real solid customer. Favouritism will be divided between Great Earl, Amaris, or Ariki. Trotters who are partial to a long journey will take the track for the STEWARDS' HANDICAP 2 miles Yds. bhd. Of those who are nearest the end, Great Bell, whose performances last season stamped her as a good trotter, will no doubt be in most demand, but Ingle Bingen is a possibility on the clay surface, and Audobell ran a good race for second money in this heat last August. Old Nighborn won quite recently, and is working as if he will repeat the performance. Despite his Auckland failures, Trampfast is a great horse, and will be a hard chap to head off. Le Todd is another of the solid type, and Young Blake has made such a fine return to form that he will have a big following. The back-marker, Audominion, is also well, and sure to put up a big go. The favourites promise to be Young Blake, Great Bell, or Trampfast. A good field of pacers, with some equally good trotters taking part, will parade for the QUEEN MARY HANDICAP

William is a brilliant chap, and Marshal is very solid. That good trotter, Peter Swift, is in a handy position, and will make the strapped brigade do their best. The Aucklanders, Wallroon and Lady Dunmore, have made a lot of friends in the South, and if Succession has returned to his form of the previous season he will be one of the most favoured element. Moneyspider is a trotter with a rare turn of speed, while Macaranda is one with great possibilities. Fight Ever will be going
fast over the final stages, and those in front will not require to make any mistakes. When the machine closes, the elect may be William the Great, Wallroon, or Marshal Neil. The Derby candidate, Harvest Child, is a smart customer, but will probably be lacking in experience. Lady Barrister, The Pointer, Amaris, and Acre are a likely lot to hit out smartly, and Nipper, Logan Park, and Hoon Hay will be right on their trail. If Logan Park is reserved for this event, he will be the big selection. Avenger will be quite at home over this journey, and will have a good companion in Bold Bill, who last season had a penchant for getting in the minor places. Further back, Parkwood looks the pick, and, judging by his recent essays, will give a lot of cheek. Public fancy will probably centre around Logan Park, Amaris, or Avenger. The speed kings who dash over eight furlongs at a great rate will lineup in the final heat of the day. the INTERNATIONAL HANDICAP 1 mile

Final McKinney is well seasoned, and must command respect from the front, while Jewel Pointer and Lady Dunmore will have a host of admirers. Both can cover the sprint distance in slick time. Logan Holm is a beauty, and those who wish to head him oft' do not require to keep their feet too long in the one place. Taurekareka won recently, and is in form, while Concliffe has preferred the sprint to the longer journey and will be haid to settle. Sea Pearl is a bonny mare, and Golden Devon will be at home over this journey. Bonny Logan is always worthy of notice in the sprint, while the big peach of the orchard is undoubtedly Nelson Fame, and if too much is not taken out of him earlier in the day he will give all and sundry a headache. The order of favouritism m:;y In- Nelson Fame, Concliffe, Logan Holme.
