BACKS OF FRETWORK FOR EVENING FROCKS
If a woman does not possess at least one evening frock the back of which looks rather like a fretwork puzzle, she is sadly behind the times. It is permissible for her to reveal „ a great deal of her back—in bits—if „ she likes, but she must lattice the dress across with wisps of its own material if she would look smart, l Lily Elsie, in the “Blue Train.” now playing in London, shows a modified edition of this new idea in two of her stage dresses. These fllmy things have f wisps of their own material across the i back. These are tied in a bow which , dangles behind the left shouler. The ends of the bow trickling down the ' bare back give the “fretwork” effect f considered so smart. A dull black satin creation had a back slit to the waist in a V-shaped point. Filling in the bareness were ! » j two diagonal lines—strips of satin i running from each shoulder and cross--1 ine in the middle of the back. It only needed a half-moon-shaped beauty spot placed under the crossing ' bands to complete the provocative ef. ; feet of half-covering.
