“WEDDING MARCH”
GREAT STORM SCENE Some of the most remarkable storm scenes ever filmed were made at the Paramount studio in Hollywood by Erich von Stroheim, for inclusion in his first Paramount picture, “The Wedding March.” The scenes represent a hunting lodge perched on the rocky summit of the Tyrolean Alps and the driving fury of a mountain storm is reproduced with such uncany fidelity that even studio attaches flocked to the von Stroheim “set” to witness the spectacle. The wind roared, hail and snow swirled through the air, lightning flashed, and great rolling banks of fog at times almost obscured the scene. Tame deer wandered about the set and a number of buzzards perched on the roof of the hunting lodge. Leading parts in these mountain sequences are played by Fay Wray, Mathew Betz and von Stroheim himself, who directs the picture and also plays the star role.
