IN THE MARKET PLACE
PRICES GENERALLY FIRM CHEAPER EGGS Good cooking apples are in demand at firm prices, lemons are easier, oranges continue to sell freely, vegetables are in good supply and sell at values well within the range of the average housewife, eggs continue to fall in value. The fruit market continues to bo regulated largely by the vagaries of the weather, and only a limited amount of business is being put through. Prices for good quality fruit remain practically on a par with late quotations. A small consignment of Island oranges, ex Wellington, arrived on the local market this morning. The Tofua is due with a fresh shipment of bananas and other Island fruit on Monday next. Heavy supplies of seasonal vegetables continue to come forward, and meet with a steady demand. Onions, pumpkins and cauliflowers are particularly well-supplied. Lettuces are generally of poor quality. Eggs offering in increasing supplies meet with an easier market. In the poultry section at the marts ducks are offering in larger numbers, and meet with slightly easier values. Pullets are still held off, and the limited number offering meets with firm values. The aggregate pennings at the present are light.
