RIFLE SHOOTING
MEETING IN FEBRUARY VISIT OF AUSTRALIANS Press Association. WELLINGTON, Thursday. The annual meeting of the executive of the National Rifle Association, Mr. H. T. Marshall presiding, decided to fire the same programme as last year, opening on February 23 so as to obtain better weather, and fit in with the visit of the Australians, who are expected to come over for the Gordon Highlander match, which is to be fired in New Zealand next year. It is hoped the Australian State teams will compete for the trophy. It is announced that as “mark shr ammunition is practically unobtainable only “mark seven” will be used at tbe meeting. Tests are being conducted as the result of which it is hoped a “mark seven” will be produced which will give satisfactory results with tne long rifle at short ranges. As sufficient first-class shots ha'e announced their intention of going to New South Wales for the October meeting there, a New Zealand team will be entered for the Commonwealth and Gordon Highlander matches. MrW. N. Masefield will be captain ana with Messrs. E. Ballinger and D. Root will pick the team after practice o the Sydney ranges. Others at present announced as intending to make the trip are Messrs. • Green, E. Vennell, H. Boon. Rley, A. Powell. J. Carter, F. Sharlano. S. Higgs, T. Goodall, A. Ballinger ARobertson, J. Drennan, J. Turnbull, Maney and W. Ballinger. The party includes the present * Zealand champion. Roots, ana tn former champions, Masefield, venn and A. Ballinger.
