Nicholson left by train for Wellington last night. The Hon. C. T. Carrington, M.L.C., arrived from Wellington by the Limited this morning. Dr. Speight arrived in Auckland this morning by the Port Hunter from Liverpool. Mr. and Mrs- Dumbleton, of Rotorua, returned this morning by the Port Hunter after a long holiday abroad. professor G. W. Daniels, of the Manchester University, arrived in Auckland this morning by the Port Hunter from Liverpool. Mr. George Paul, handicapper to the Auckland and numerous other trotting clubs, leaves by the express to-night for Wellington, en route to Christchurch. to be present at the Addington August carnival. Mr. Allen Bell, M.P- for the Bay of Islands, has been granted seven days’ leave of absence from the House of Representatives owing to illness. He has had a severe attack of congestion of the lungs and is not expected to be about again for at least ten days. Constable O. H. Henrickson, who for the past eight years has been stationed at Avondale and Mount Albert, has been transferred to Greymouth. On Tuesday evening, officers of the Mount Eden station presented Mr. and Mrs. Hendrickson with a leather suitcase, a salad bowl and service. Commander H. L. Morgan, D. 5.0., who arrived in Auckland yesterday in H.M.S. Dunedin, has served in most sorts of ships. He was at the Battle of Jutland and later on the monitor Marshal Ney during the bombardment of the Belgian coast. Submarine hunting then became his occupation, and after the armistice he was in charge of minesweepers. Captain J. S. M. Ritchie will relinquish command of H.M.S. Dunedin, flagship of the New Zealand- Division, in September. The ship will be taken over again as flagship by Commodore G. T. C. B. Swabey, D. 5.0., who at present flies his broad pennant in H.M.S.
