AGRION'S PACE
A SLICK HALF-MILE BEST SPRINT AT RANDWICK The New Zealand colt Agrion was the outstanding galloper at Randwick last week among sprinters. His half-mile in 50i was a smart performance, showing that, although he is new to fast work since his winter spell, his former speed hasn’t deserted him. Miss Australia, another two-year-old. ran her half-mile in 51, and others who
| went well over a short distance were ! Blather, Palermo and Sum King. Agrion still bears a robust appearance; but, having had plenty of strong exercise in the home paddocks before he came to Australia, he is evidently better off in the matter of condition ; than appearances suggest. The 50 £ was probably a bit better i than his trainer expected, and Agrion ; blew freely on pulling up. He finished ! slightly ahead of his stable companion. Phillipic. The gallop was on the course proper, where the conditions favoured fast times being made, though flags out 25 l'eet added slightly to the distances traversed.
