PRODUCERS’ BOARDS
NO STATE ACTION / MERGER IF DESIRED (THE SUN*a Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. question of a possible merger of the Dairy Control Board and the Meat Board, which was raised by Mr. J. A. Nash, member for Palmerston North, in the House recently, is considered by the Minister of Agriculture to be one for the boards themselves to express an opinion on, rather than one for Government action. “Each board," Mr. Hawken said in reply to Mr. Nash, “is elected by producers, and it can be accepted that each is desirous of doing the best possible in the interests of the producers.” TN reply to Mr. G. H. Dickie, memA ber for Patea, the Minister said it is not the intention of the Government to seek the opinion of the New Zeaiand producers upon the advisabality of having a board of 12 members to control the whole of their produce, seeing that the Dairy Board is entrusted w ith important powers apart from the actual control of marketing. A second point raised by Mr- Dickie was whether petitions requesting amendment of repeal of the Dairy Control Act had been received. Mr. Hawken said no requests of this nature have been brought before the Government.
