ONE TREE HILL ROAD BOARD MEETS

KERBING AND CHANNELLING TRIBUTE TO LATE MR. HOGG • Tribute was paid last evening at a meeting of the One Tree Hill Road Board to the late Air. W. Hogg, formerly clerk of the board, who died last week. It was decided to send a letter of condolence to Airs. Hogg. The engineer reported that the estimated cost of kerbing and channelling a portion of Green Lane would be £B6O, of which £IOO would be contributed by the Auckland Trotting Club. The matter was referred to the Works Committee. It was decided to apply to the Alain Highways Board to have Green Lane declared a main highway. The proposed kerbing and channelling of Pukenui Road, estimated to cost £950, was also referred to the Works Committee. The engineer was authorised to sink a soak-hole in Rokefield Road to relieve flooding from stormwater. He was also instructed to report on the advisability of forming a footpath in Neilson Avenue, Penrose. An amicable financial settlement has been effected between the board and the Onehunga Borough Council in respect of a transfer of a portion of One Tree Hill district to Onehunga. STORM-WATER COMPLAINT Replying to a deputation of Penrose residents complaining of storm-water flooding from the Ellerslie Town Board district, the board promised to do something to abate the nuisance. It was suggested the assistance of the Health Department should besought in connection with the complaint. The board’s share of heavy traffic licences, £747, was received from the Auckland City Council. It was agreed to hold a special meeting to consider the scheme for the formation of a metropolitan council. The building inspector reported that 13 building permits, involving £5,950, had been issued during the last fortnight. Difficulty in controlling traffic, owing to a lack of by-laws relating to certain breaches, was the subject of a report by the traffic inspector. The question of revising the existing traffic by-laws was referred to the Works Committee. The inspector recommended the board to support the Traffic Inspectors’ Association’s request to the Minister of Public Works, to have fines pooled and divided among local bodies, as were the heavy traffic fees.
