COMMENDATION
RIDER ENGAGED H. CAIRNS, OF HEROIC FAME Advice has been received that the Australian jockey, H. Cairns, has been engaged to ride Commendation in all his races in Australia. Cairns is one of the foremost horsemen on the other side, and in securing his services Mr. W. H. Gaisford should have no cause for complaint. Cairns ljas ridden far years, and his name is on the list of riders of winners of many of Australia’s biggest events. - EARLY PILOT OF HEROIC Cairns was associated with the brilliant Heroic in his two-year-old and three-year-old successes, and it was he that landed the Valais horse a winner over Nigger Minstrel and Spearfelt in that memorable A.J.C. Derby a few seasons back. Now Heroic has retired from the turf with the laurels. King Carnival, by Comedy King, also gave Cairns several good wins at two and three years. Indeed, Cairns has ridden numerous classic winners. While restricting himself to riding on the flat these days, Commendation’s pilot has had experience over obstacles, and one of his most important successes in this department was when he drove Bardolpli home the winner of the Australian Hurdles nine years ago. Admirers of Commendation can now rest assured tltat the fine Limond four-year-old will suffer from nothing on the score of horsemanship with Hugh Cairns in the saddle.
