TECHNICAL EDUCATION

DEVELOPMENT WANTED “CONCENTRATE ON ESSENTIALS” Press Association. WELLINGT OX. Wednesday. At the Technical Education Association conference, Mr. J. R. Kirk advocated spending much of the time discu cussing present position of teehnnical education, maintaining that if no more money could be spent on education as a whole, an allocation more in favour of technical education should be made. He appealed to the delegates to concentrate on essentials and not harass the department with requests for “iron railings round magnificent buildings.” He deplored the shelving of the report by Mr. Frank Tate. Director of Education in Victoria. He thought it would be the best possible thing if the Director of Education, Mr. T. B. Strong, were sent to the educational congress in Canada, and hoped that the conference would pass a resolution to this effect. The director, he said, had an open mind regarding the development of technical education. The department would carefully consider the conference conclusions.
