HAMILTON BOROUGH
CARRYING ON RELIEF ; Hamilton Borough Council met last ' night, when the Mayor, Mr. J. R. Fow, presided. A report was received of the conference with the representatives of ’ Waikato and Waipa Counties in con- . nection with regional planning, and the recommendations were adopted, providing for a joint committee, representative of each body, to be set up and the respective engineers to confer and | submit the necessary information to enable the committee to consider a ’ regional planning scheme for the whole ' area. ? The recommendations in the Gas and Electricity Committee’s report were adopted, providing for the extension of - gas mains at a cost of £309 ISs Id. and for the yearly earmarking, out of revenue, of such sums as may be available up to £3,000 for the purpose of gasworks and renewal. , Steps are being taken to acquire control of the standing bush by the borough on the A. and P. property at Claudelands showgrounds, and a committee has been appointed to negotiate for the transfer of the area. An increase of from 40 to S 4 in the' i borough list of unemployed has been , recorded in the past few days, and . all are described as authentic and de--1 serving cases. The council’s relief . funds are -'exhausted, but authority has been given to c Vry on work for a ; fortnight, when tne relief loan propoc sal will have been submitted to the i ratepayers.
