NOTABLE SPORTSMAN
DEATH OF MR. J. F. BUCHANAN Beath has removed yet another splendid New Zealand sportsman. This time it is Mr. John Fletcher Buchanan, aged 55, owner of the Kinloch stud at Little River, Canterbury. The late Mr. Buchanan was visiting England and news of his death was received to-day. He was on a health recruiting mission and the news of his demise will be received with regret by all associated with racing. The famous Kinloch stud has kept the late Mr. Buchanan’s name prominently before the public for several years past, for it was there that Martian brought fame, not only to the stud where he was domiciled, but also honour to the Bominion’s thoroughbred stock. Mr. Buchanan purchased Martian from the late Mr. G. L. Stead at the end of a brief racing career. The late Mr. Buchanan occasionally raced horses bred by Mr. Stead, and Battlement is one of them
