FIRE IN SIDE-SHOWS
SHEDS NOT INSURED WHO WILL PAY DAMAGE? “If they are going to repudiate liability they might as well say good-bye to their chances of ever holding another winter show on the wharf,” said the chairman, Mr. H. R. Mackenzie, at the meeting of the Harbour Board yesterday. The fire among the sideshows at the Winter Exhibition caused about £2OO worth of damage to the wharf-sheds, and the sheds are not covered by insurance. The committee of the show wrote to the Harbour Board yesterday pointing out that when the sheds had been loaned free, the board had insisted that the executive should insure them. But rent having been charged, the board had not required the executive this year to cover the sheds with insurance. and accordingly the executive had not done so. The question was deferred, the chairman holding that the board could hold the committee responsible.
