A suggestion that some of the slum areas should be acquired and a series of flats for working people erected was made to the City Council by the Civic League last week. The rent oi each flat, it was further suggested, should be one day’s wage. On the motion of the Mayor. Mr. G. Baildon, it was decided to reply that the council was not in a position to acquire property for such purpose.
