“TRAMWAY SERVICE UNSATISFACTORY”
COMPLAINT FROM MT. ALBERT The tramway service came in for strong criticism at a meeting of the Mount Albert Borough Council last evening. HPHE manager of the Auckland City Tramways wrote replying to the council’s request that a few buses be placed on the Mount Albert and Edendale routes during rush hours, and also that a car which had been transferred from the Edendale line to the Mount Eden line be replaced. The n>anager stated that no buses were available, and that no car had been taken off the Edendale route. The Mayor, Mr. L. E. Rhodes, said that the tramways department had been repeatedly urged to augment the service, but each time a reply had been received stating that nothing could be done for the present. This was very unsatisfactory for Mount Albert residents. A letter is to be sent to the Tramways Committee of the Auckland City Council asking it to reconsider the reply and endeavour to improve the Mount Albert and Edendale services. “That this council is dissatisfied with the present tram transport system” was added as an amendment.
