COLLIER BUFFETED

Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH. Monday. Nine days out from Newcastle and after one of the roughest trips on record, the Union Company’s steamer Kauri, with a full cargo of coal, arrived at Lyttelton this morning. She experienced adverse conditions all the way, and was generally buffeted. However, she experienced the worst weather on Saturday, meeting a tremendous south-easterly sea. Her decks were awash almost all day. A few of the smaller deck fittings were twisted, but otherwise no damage was done.
