CAR THEFT AT WHANGAREI
TWO YOUTHS CHARGED A MIRACULOUS ESCAPE Press Association. WHANGAREI, Thursday. Two youths, each aged 17, Clarence Keith Haynes and Edgar William Vaile, were jointly charged at the Police Court before justices this morning with converting a motor-car, the property of Mr. H. W. Crawford, man-aging-director of the "Northern Advocate,” to their own use last Thursday night. The car crashed near Hikurangi, necessitating repairs, which have been assessed at £l5O. The occupants, one of whom was flung through the windscreen, miraculously escaped with minor injuries. The accused, who were arrested yesterday, were remanded until Monday, £SO bail being allowed, with one surety of £IOO each.
