RUGBY DISPUTE IN KING COUNTRY
(Special to THE MJN.) TAUMARUNUI, Monday. A special meeting of the King Country Rugby Union to consider the dispute over the admission of Otorohanga as a sub-union, broke up as a result of three delegates withdrawing from the meeting after a lively discussion. The meeting was called at the request of three members of the union, with a view to admitting Otorohanga as a sub-union. When the meeting opened a letter was received from the New Zealand Rugby Union which stated that the admission of Otorohanga at a previous meeting was ultra vires. After some discussion the chairman moved that as the matter had not been put clearly before the New Zealand Rugby Union, the meeting adjourn until such time as a further reply was received; and that in the meantime all correspondence and resolutions in connection with Otorohanga’s admission as a sub-union be forwarded to the N.Z.R.F.U. The question then cropped up as to the status of the Kawhia delegate. The chairman said that apparently there had been two illegal admissions, Otorohanga and Kaw r hai. He ruled that Kawhia could not vote. Mr. Rothery said that if Kawhia was excluded from voting then he would withdrawn from the meeting. He would not be a party to such tactics. Air. Rothery then left the room, and with him went Messrs W. Tapp and T. Hetet (Manipoto) and W. Copsey (Kawhia.) There being no quorum left, the meeting ended abruptly.
