BRITISH AIR DERBY

WINNER’S AMAZING SPEED &V Cable.—Press Association.—-Copyright LONDON, Sunday. Last year’s winner of the air Derby the King’s Cup, Captain Hubert S. Broad, flew from London to Nottingham in yesterday’s race in 39 minutes 51 seconds at the astonishing speed of !73 miles an hour. His Tiger Moth was fitted with an B-A.C. engine of 35 h.p. A British official wireless message states that what is regarded as the fastest airplane in the Royal Air Force, Avro Napier “Avenger,” was flown hy Flight-Lieutenant Pope off scratch. The smallest machine, an Anec, was on the limit, with five hours’ start. The engine of the Anec is of 40 h.p. It conw*asts strikingly with the Hawker Rolls-Royce bombing plane with a 700 h.p. engine, which also competed.—A. *hd N.Z.
