AN ISOLATED INCIDENT
MAN ADMITTED TO PROBATION OFFENCE DUE TO DRINK Probation was granted Reginald Arthur Pyke by Mr. Justice Stringer at the Supreme Court this morning. Prisoner had pleaded guilty to a charge of indecent assault on a girl. For the prisoner, Mr. R. A. Singer stated that there were features of the case which justified him in asking for probation. It was an isolated case, in which the man committed an offence while under the influence of liquor. His Honour said he was satisfied on that point. Under ordinary circum* stances he would not entertain probation for a man who committed indecent acts on young girls. But in this case no harm had been done the girl, either physically or morally. In the circumstances, and taking into consideration the previous good character of the prisoner, he felt justified in admitting the prisoner to probation for a period of two years, with the special condition that he pay the costs of the prosecution. £l6 Bs.
