SENTENCES IN SOUTH Press Association. WELLINGTON, Monday. John Asher was sentenced by Mr. Justice MacGregor, at the Supreme Court this morning to five years for arson and two years for breaking and entering and theft, the terms to be concurrent. His Honour said that the case was a particularly bad one. Asher entered the house, stole all the money he could, and then set the house on fire, endangering the life of a bedridden woman next door. George Huia Brewer, for escaping from custody, was sentenced to six months, to be served after the present term. He had 25 previous convictions. SEVEN AT DUNEDIN DUNEDIN, Monday. The following prisoners were sentenced by Mr. Justice Sim at the Supreme Court this morning:—Ralph Alexander Renton and James Ronald Renton, for breaking an entering and theft, three years at the Borstal Institute; Ronald William Winton and Noel James Francis Campbell, for breaking and entering, two years’ probation; John Alexander Graham, for theft of cows, three years’ probation: Leonard Harvey Jackson, for making a fraudulent statement and forgery, two years’ probation: Gordon Brown, on charges under the Bankruptcy Act. three months’ imprisonment.
