NOTES AND COMMENTS
FROM NEAR AND FAR PROVINCIAL CHAT Something Good That good mare Florrie Bingen, by Nelson Bingen from a Harold Dillon mare is in foal to the high-class American-bred sire Worthy Bond. Florrie Bingen, apart from being bred on excellent lines, has proved her worth on the track and the result of her union with Mr. B. P. Edwards’s horse should be something pretty good. A Good Trotter Betty Moko, who has certainly been a great advertisement for her sire, Peter Moko, has terminated her short holiday to which she was entitled after her brilliant displays at the Auckland winter fixture. Betty Moko will be given a preparation for the spring functions and she will keep the opposition busy. The theory that Betty would not get to the end of two miles, must be well exploded after her recent efforts. This mare will reach top-hole company in the new season. Promising Youngster T. Brady also has a youngster in work at Penrose that is showing great promise as a pacer. It is a two-year-old by the Papatoetoe sire Worthy Bond from a mare named Connie, and, on appearances alone is a credit to its ancestry. The Penrose enthusiast is quite pleased with the early displays of the juvenile, who if continuing on the even tenor of way, will do well. Should Make Good The Gold Bell—Lady Natalie gelding, Gold Circle, has had an easy time since he put up such a smart performance at Hawera at Easter. For 35 sovereigns the Auckland trained three-year-old improved his time., from 3.45 to 3.35 over 12 furlongs, which was certainly hard luck. Next season the son of Gold Bell should do much better. Is It Correct? C. Schon, the Whangarei mentor, has been pottering about with the three-year-old Moko Fly, while his speedy mare Lola Reklaw has been enjoying a well-earned holiday. Reports from the North state that the son of Peter Moko has improved out of all knowledge, and one expert. assured the writer that the youngster had recently shown superior speed to his stable mate. Not In A Hurry Dick Dillon, the racy-looking son of Kyana—Lou Dillon is still out in the long acres and will not be taken in hand again for a few weeks. Dick was given a holiday after his unlucky effort on the opening day at Alexandra Park, when he got badly stopped through the Silk Thread—Machine Gun mix-up. Geo. Phipps hopes to get the Aus-tralian-bred gentleman back to his best when the summer rolls round. Not Over-Raced The Childewood mare Black Lila, also owned by the Epsom trainer, G. Phipps, will shortly be brought in from her lengthy holiday. The black mare only sported silk on three occasions during the season and the last time up she made good by winning the Manukau Handicap at the Auckland
spring fixture. Black Lila requires nursing and G.P. ia just the chap that knows how to attend to her. Could Not Get There Expedient carried M. B. Edwards in the Washdyke Handicap at Tiraaru, but this did not make him win. After going a solid race the best he could do was to finish fourth. He may do better at some of the minor meetings next year. Promising Yougsters The Invercargill trainer. S. Todd, is handling a good stamp of a filly by Gold Bell from Cardinal and Blue. She claims an engagement in the New Zealand Sapling Stakes in 1928. Todd is also working a gelding by Sungod from Merce by Galindo from Authoress. dam of the great Author Dillon. This fellow is a trotter and has plenty of size. Not A Tilden Tennis was five-love with bettors at Timaru on Saturday week, hut again he allowed them to lose their money. He did not seem happy on the tripand then finished a poor third, ti son of Our Thorpe usually bounce* into a minor place, but he is a long way below championship form. Another for the Coast A West Coast sportsman has purchased Peter Wilkins. The Coast ha* had a wonderful influence on many erratic horses, but Peter Wilkins prove an exception. The son of Petereta —Tossi G. has a kitful of bad habitt. and it will take something to m** him alter his tactics. ! Enjoying a Holiday That good trotter Peter Dean. put up such an attractive pelwjjj ance when he annexed the Y islt * Handicap at the Otahuhu spring n'* ture last November, is enjoying a S°°“ spell in the long acres. The wn * Petereta —Ivy Dean will be idle hts time away till well into SH tember, when Mrs. Sweetapples _ square-gaiter will be taken in hand another preparation. Another Aussie for Auckland H. Hendriksen, the well-taw"® I Auckland light harness enthusiast,_n purchased a four-year-old gelding Australia that claims for its Huon Junior mare which was dowed with a fine turn of speed, maiden is reported to be a prorm sort, and when seasoned, and a more experienced at the business, no doubt render his owner useful - Now Well Behaved The rising three-year-old filji Man-o’-War from Miss Rolfe. * n a Julian’s stable, has furnished vaxo nice filly, and of lat*> has 1 docile.
