SECONDARY SCHOOLS RUGBY MATCHES
Sacred Heart v King’s The match between Sacred Heart and King's was played at King’s on Saturday. In spite of the heavy and sodden ground, the game was fast throughout and play frequently swung quickly from one end of the'field to tire other. Early in the game King's were penalised and Mallet kicked a goal. However, J. Gillett equalised with a free kick. Just before half-time Gould scored an unconverted try and gave King’s the lead.—King’s 6. Sacred Heart 3. In the final quarter, the result was put beyond doubt. A smart piece of work after the change round caught Sacred Heart napping and Caughey scored between the posts. The kick failed. Final scores: King’s 9, Sacred Heart 3. Although Mallet made some fine openings for Sacred Heart, the visitors failed to cross their opponents' line, the defence being sound. On the other hand the Sacred Heart defence was not consistent, and King’s had an easy score in the final quarter. Hura also played well for Sacred Heart. For King’s, Browne was responsible for some fine saves, while Caughey and Milliken were dangerous on attack. Bowman and Eddleston both played well before they had to retire. In the forwards, E. Gillett and J. Gillett used their weight well and Gould was conspicuous in the loose. The referee was Mr. G. Peace.
