WEEK-END MATCHES LINKS IN POOR ORDER AUCKLAND CLUB Week-end competitions saw some fairly good scoring in Auckland in spite of the links being in a most sodden condition and many of the clubs having been unable to use their mowing machines. At Middlemore, H. B. Lloyd, in spite of recent handicap reduction, went round in the brilliant score of 81, which was an outstanding performance for a 15 handicap man, and his net 66 gave him the George Cup. On the previous Saturday he led the field 5 up in a bogey competition. The next best cards included: E. A. Dargaville, 86-14, 72; H. L. Rees, 78-5, 73; H. Plumley, 78-3, 73; H. C. Liese, 78-5, 73, and W. Wilson, 89-16, 73. To reach the semi-final of the captains prize A. Moddington beat J. F. Brown, 3 and 2, after the pair had finished all square on the previous occasions. Boddington now meets Friedlander, and the winner will meet R. O. Gardner in the final, Gardner having beaten P. J. Western 2 up in a close match. The championship qualifying rounds are fixed for next Saturday, but may be postponed if the weather does not allow of the course being prepared. A decision on this point will be made on Thursday.
