Bottomley Unbowed
RETURN FROM GAOL ASSURED AND CONFIDENT By Cattle. —Press Association. —Copyright LONDON, Saturday. Horatio Bottomley returned home from gaol with his old assurance undiminished. The inhabitants of Dicker village, whose faith in him was never shaken, had their single street hung with flags, and, quickly assembling the men of the village band from their work in the fields, welcomed Bottomley with a blare of brass. In the course of the afternoon he strolled in his grounds for the purpose of being photographed. It is expected that he will make his first public appearance on Monday, for the purpose of presenting his own shield to the Dicker Football Club. Bottomley’s five years in prison were full of incident. His articles dealing with his prison life were smuggled out of prison and were published. This resulted in the punishment of the warder who was responsible. At first Bottomley took his confinement badly. Latterly he became more reconciled to his lot. At first he was given work in the printing department of the prison and later he was engaged in repairing the books in the library. He has been released on ticket-of-leave and must report to the police once a month during the 21 unexpired months of the term of his sentence. Great crowds gathered round his house to congratulate him on his release. He discussed business matters with a view to his rehabilitation within five hours of his relea.e.—A. and N.Z.
