BUSINESS QUIET HIKURANGIS STILL FIRMING A period of little business seems to have set in one of the ’Change, and both last evening’s and this morning’s calls saw few sales. Perhaps the feature of the market, passing practically unnoticed, is the gradual hardening of Kikurangi Coals. Buyers for the preference issue today advanced their offers to 6s 9d. Mining is particularly depressed and weak, with several shares not even quoted. Alburnias are slightly stronger, though no sale has been reported. Government and local body debentures command less attention, and operators have largely withdrawn from the market. Quotations, however, remain practically unchanged. In the miscellaneous section sellers’ quotations for Sanfords and Sharlands are a shade easier, with no buyers.
