GOOD WORK
ECONOMIC SURVEY AIDING PRIMARY PRODUCTION (From Our Own CoD'espondent.J HAMILTON, To-day. With the object of assessing as closely as possible farming production costs, the Agricultural Department is conducting an economic survey in the South Auckland district. The departmental officers are finding their work facilitated by operating over the group herd-testing areas, that system being of valuable assistance to the work being undertaken in striking an average of money expended under the different farm headings. Mr. I. W. Weston, of the economic division of the Department of Agriculture, Wellington, and Mr. G. W. Wild, assistant-instructor in agriculture, Hamilton, are conducting the investigations, and the information gained concerning the cost of farming operations on differing types of country will be disclosed later. Manawaru, a high-testing butterfat area, and Raglan, which is not so advanced on the testing scale, are areas which have already been covered. The officers of the department are at presnent engaged on the Matangi and Tamahere groups, and will then move to other districts.
