MISSIONS TO CHINA

DRASTIC CHANGE NEEDED By Cable. —-Press Association. —Copyright HONOLULU, Wednesday. The discussion at the conference of the Institute of Pacific Relations yesterday on missionary work in China brought out a general opinion that the old-time mission structure is crumbling and that there must be a drastic change if Christianity is to survive; also that the missionary of the future must be better grounded in the history and ideals of China, less dogmatic and able to arouse respect for Western learning as well as for Western religious ideals. In future, it was felt, missionaries must go to the Orient quite as much to learn as to teach. —A. and N.Z.
