REV. J. BARR WELCOMED BY N.Z. ALLIANCE

“VICTORY IN YOUR CAMP” “I would say from the speeches, and the number and enthusiasm of this gathering, that the sound of coming victory is already iri your camp.” Thus said the Rev. James Barr, a strong advocate of no-licence in Scotland, in replying to an enthusiastic welcome given him by over 200 members of the Auckland Area of the New Zealand Alliance at a complimentary dinner in the Pacific Club Rooms last evening. Mr. Barr spoke eloquently upon the progress of the no-licence movement in Scotland and in other parts of the world. He also referred to the national movement for Scottish Home Rule, of which he is an ardent supporter. Mr. W. R. Tuck, president of the Auckland Area, welcomed the visitor on behalf of the Alliance, Mrs. Benfell, on behalf of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union, and the National Council of Women, the Rev. Dr. H. Ranston, president of the Methodist Conference, on behalf of the churches of Auckland, Mr. Keith Ramsay, on behalf of the Bible Class movement, the Rev. G. Jackson, area organiser to the Alliance, and Mr. T. Bloodworth, on behalf of the Labour movement.
